The Overcomers View on Discipleship

18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Jesus gave clear instructions to His disciples (and now us, the church) to go into all the world and make disciples. Just as Heaven rejoices in the decision of every person who makes Jesus Lord of their life, so do we as the church. However, we know this is only the beginning of the journey for those who have called on the name of the Lord for salvation. After surrendering to Him, the aim of relationship with people is that of growth through discipleship–teaching them to fall in love with Jesus on a personal level.

Jesus never gave a command for us to make converts, but He did give a command to make disciples. The scope of discipleship reflects that of personal connection and personal growth. Taking the example of Jesus, we work to build relationships that cater to increase people’s personal relationships with Jesus. Our job is to draw people unto Him. Not only is it the greatest joy to be disciples and disciple others, it is also the most important job one can have. To tend the souls of God’s most precious creation (people) is the greatest honor.

It is our heart not to just disciple individuals, but to disciple entire families, and ultimately entire nations. The Lord has deposited into our hearts a vision to reach every home in our town(s) and beyond with the gospel of Jesus. We carry the heart of Jesus in that we believe we have a responsibility to disciple entire nations with the gospel of Jesus.
